Antenatal & Postnatal Counselling

Postnatal counselling is offered for new mothers, fathers  and family members, who are finding it difficult to cope with the changes and process related to childbirth.

Postnatal depression (PND) requires support and knowledge around the physical and mental changes during and after childbirth. This life-changing event can have many effects on new mothers and it is important there is support at hand.

I support mothers through antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression and perinatal OCDI also support partners and families who are affected by changes in their own lives after a new birth.

PND is the term used to describe depression when it occurs following the birth of a baby.  It is more likely to occur if there is a history of depression or recent life stresses.  However, it can also start for no obvious reason without previous mental health difficulties.

Antenatal depression (AND) is the term used to describe depression when it occurs during pregnancy.  Symptoms experienced are like those in PND, however, with AND, you may experience more anxiety about the impending birth and your new role as a mother.
