Dr Eleanor Wakerly

I’m Eleanor, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Member of the British Psychological Society, with over 20 years experience working in NHS mental health, learning disability and specialist neurodivergent services.

I work across the life span from young adults to older people encountering problems in the latter stages of life. I work predominantly with major depression and severe anxiety (and associated conditions such as OCD) for individuals and groups.

The goal of my work is twofold: to build a clearer understanding of how a person’s distress may have emerged (e.g., key early experiences), been triggered (e.g., by a critical incident such as a major life transition) and inadvertently been maintained (e.g., by unhealthy coping strategies) and to help them to set a trajectory forwards ultimately relieving them of that distress. I can help a person to develop a better sense of control over where they want to be and how to get there.

I primarily use a structured Cognitive Behavioural approach in adjunct to the core principles of systemic working - staying curious and seeing a problem as relational. We look closely at interaction, rather than action alone.

I see self-funded people or those who wish to claim through private medical insurance or for a subsidy via CIC.
